The story of David and Goliath is one of those bible stories that gets told over and over again for good reason. There are countless lessons that come from it. I spent time studying the story during my personal bible study and received so many levels of revelation from it. One that I was able to use as a practical way to overcome a challenge was to consider what the "Goliath's" in my life were by calling them by name.
Goliath, was a giant that was much bigger than David, making him appear impossible to beat. I imagined Goliath as a way of seeing things in my life that I thought were much bigger than I was. I've journaled for years and have many from various stages of my life. My college journals have such different concerns and interests than those that I held in my late 20s, 30s, and my current season. It's funny now to go back and read the things that I saw as "problems", but also shows how far I have come. I had many Goliath's that I recognized as slayed while going back and reading old journals. There were even Goliath's from journals written as early as this year that I can proudly say are no longer concerns.
If you do not journal, think back to seasons of your life and what the Goliath was at that time. You may realize there were once areas in your life that you struggled in that you forgot were even challenges. I totally forgot that a few years ago, comparison was a huge Goliath in my life. I compared myself to others and was very insecure if I did not feel that my life or accomplishments were equivalent to those that I had respect for. I had to work on my personal insecurities before eventually slaying that Goliath in my life.
It may take time, but believe that you have the same power as David to slay the Goliath's in your life, whether they are feelings, people, or even things. Make a list of the Goliath's that you need to overcome and practical, daily steps to slay them. Pray for wisdom and strength, having faith that you will mark each Goliath off as slayed and conquered.
Take time to read and study the story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17.
